Next, we have to talk food. We did some serious eating. We started with the calamari. I was in LOVE! I think the second shot captures my excitement.

Meaty sounds like a weird way to describe the calamari, but that’s what it is. They fry up strips of calamari steak, not just the tentacles. The homemade dippings sauces were outrageous. They even make their own ketchup. I mean, come on!

For dinner, Andrew had the steak and I had the mahi mahi. My dish came with a crab risotto and was drenched in a lobster broth. The flavor was ridiculous. It was crazy rich and I could not finish it, but I enjoyed every bite just as much for lunch the next day. It was such a treat and the flavor combinations were spot on.

We enjoyed every aspect of our meal, especially the “at home” atmosphere that the staff oozed. The executive chef stopped by our table. I could see the work that he had put into the menu and the passion behind it. This place is excellent. You seriously have to check it out for yourself. Next time we go in we’re going to head to the tavern side, which has a totally different menu and looks gorgeous. They have these chairs made from wine barrels that I am seriously lusting over.

In summary, get out there. Like now. Tonight. You will fall in love. Check out their full menu on their website. It’s ridiculous.

Hey all you Texas cowboys, its is that time of year again. The Gateway to the Sierras takes every country girl and boy back to their roots where the sun is warm and the farmers tan. This isn’t Disneyland folk’s, its the Clovis Rodeo. The time of year, where my memory fades to sunshine, baseball, hiking, surfing the So Cal beaches, but my most fierce memory of all, my Dad taking me to the rodeo. The Clovis Rodeo, where the sun is shines bright, and the line dancing boots are heard through out the streets with and songs about small towns, old dirt roads, fishing poles and ice cold beer. So put on your boots and walk right on down to the Gateway to the Sierras and enjoy the Rodeo, bull riding, mutton busting, the rodeo parade and rodeo dance and the concert where Justin Moore will be performing after the Friday night show of PBR, (Bullriding). Thursday April 26th-Sunday April 29th.

Her name rings like gold. This hardworking determined girl, Jocelyn Goldring and her family have been the largest supporters and brains behind the Festival of Hearts fundraiser every year. This event took place March 17, 2012 at The Grand, in downtown Fresno, and benefits children with Congenital Heart Disease, offering them a free summer camp every year. The night consisted of dinner, auction, silent auction, and some dancing the night away. So kind of an excuse to hangout with friends and dance the night away while supporting one the most heart breaking diseases for patients and families.

This is the Goldring family minus their mom Kim, with Jocelyn’s two sisters Alexis and Rachel. This family knows how to love, and will sure make you laugh your heart out because they truly see how fragile and short life can be.

The best part of the night was spending it with all my best friends, laughing, living life to the fullest because you never know when it will fall right out of your hands.

Here I am with the birthday boy. I mean he’s seriously one of the best men I’ve ever known.

I mean he’s just the cutest. I felt super Armenian that night, so I ordered the Armenian Delight. If you want to try a bunch of different Armenian delicacies, it’s definitely the menu item to pick.

From left to right there is sarma which is meat rolled in cabbage and grape leaves served hot, kufta which is like an Armenian meatball (it’s my grandpa’s favorite), and of course shish kebab.

I’ve walked past Santiago’s every time I’ve ventured down Olive. To be honest, I thought it was a storage area. There are items piled in every square inch of this place. No joke. If you’re claustrophobic at all, I would bring a paper bag with you. Check it out.

You really have to dig to find a treasure, but let me tell you there are treasures to be had. Santiago and his fam are more than willing to cut a deal, which I LOVE. Do you see those striped chairs? Such potential. I’d recover them, but they have great bones.

I was really tempted to bring home this guy.

And this mirror. Stop it.

I saw so many styles in there that I’m confident that any vintage lover would adore it. There were some amazing mirrors with intricate details, the tackiest of tacky posters & busts. Antique couches and mid century modern end tables. It was pretty crazy.

If you want to go on a little treasure hunt, check out Santiago’s on Olive. It’s inbetween Palm and Fruit on the South side of the street. If nothing else it will definitely be an adventure.

Because I love her I won’t show you the pretty awful picture I took of her. Instead I’ll show you a picture of us at my wedding all pretty. (I totally didn’t realize your eyes were closed Mom!)

Isn’t she pretty? I mean the prettiest mom I ever did see.

We sat and enjoyed a leisurely breakfast on a cool and clear day. Shortly after we headed over to the Vineyard Farmer’s Market. It’s beautiful and year round. The farmer’s market scene definitely heats up in the summer (wow rhyming and puns!), but the Vineyard Farmer’s Market is one of the faithful few that stay open year round.

My mom and I left with fresh squeezed juice, eggs, romanesco cauliflower (my new fave), and some fresh organic kale.

At home, I unpacked my veggies and got to sit down with our out of town guests, Holly and Ryan. They are dear friends of Andrew’s that I was lucky to inherit. On a perfect Fresno day I just had to take them to experience a Fresno gem. Fortunately, Dusty Buns Bistro Bus had conveniently added a stop to their normal rotation. They are now at Kristina’s Organic Farmer’s Market at First & Barstow on Saturdays.

Ryan had the dusty bun. Holly and I had the Le Grilled Cheese which, excuse my french, was so flipping delicious.

After a long day in the sun we ended our day on the couch with some Me-n-Eds pizza. Have you ever had the hot hawaiian? If you haven’t I’m just so sad for you. You must try it.

Ok, ya, it wasn’t the healthiest of days. Yes, I had been eating paleo for a week and then went down a dark path fueled by carbs and cheese. Yes, I drifted into a carb induced coma around 8pm, but it was oh so delightful.

I’m getting back on track this week (another rhyme!). Want to get back on track with me? Here’s what I did with that kale I picked up at the farmer’s market. Oh and tomorrow, we’ll have a video interviewing the Farmer’s Daughter CSA which just happens to be where  my little kale was raised. Make sure you check it out. We’re totally in love with the Farmer’s Daughter.

Kale Chips (originally spotted on alexandra cooks)

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Tear the kale leaves into tiny pieces.

Toss in a bowl with a little olive oil and salt.

Bake for about 10-15 minutes or until chips are crunchy.

Remove from oven and eat immediately.

They do give you some pretty funky breath, but they are magically delicious.

I love me some Mexican food. It’s by far my favorite. We haven’t been able to go out as much as we’d like with this little bundle of joy, so Chance went and picked up some food to go from a cute, little Mexican restaurant right up the street from our house.

Usually I would say Mexican food is hard to screw up, but really… I’ve had some BAD tacos before. I think we can all agree that sometimes a taco can have the same ingredients, but lack in taste. It’s all in the meat and seasoning. Don’t you agree?

Either way, I had some of the BEST tacos I’ve had in a LONG time the other night. They were SO delish. The restaurant is called La Fonda De Ofelia. It’s located on Palm between Shields and Dakota. And they opened just 3 weeks ago! Super friendly staff (or so my husband says, but he doesn’t really lie so I’ll take his word for it) and great prices.

I got the carne asada taco plate and Chance got a giant stuffed burrito. We were both pleasantly surprised at how tasty this fast little dinner was… have any of you been to La Fonda yet? Do you know what I’m talking about??
